Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
On the eve of the seventh phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, severe tension erupted in the Kadambagachi area of the Barasat constituency in West Bengal. Trinamool Congress (TMC) is accused of beheading the daughter of a BJP booth president in the Koyra Shivatala area of Kadambagachi village panchayat. The victim, a minor, is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. This incident has added to the volatility in Barasat, which encompasses seven TMC-held assembly constituencies and features 1,991 booths, including 270 deemed sensitive.
Voting is underway in nine Lok Sabha constituencies in Bengal today, with Barasat being one of the critical areas due to the alleged violent incident. The Barasat constituency includes Barasat, Habra, Ashoknagar, Deganga, Madhyamgram, Bidhannagar, and Rajarhat-Newtown. Bloodshed marked the beginning of the voting day, with accusations flying between the TMC and BJP, further intensifying the already charged political atmosphere. The by-election is also being conducted in Baranagar today.
